Tub options include standard alcove tubs, soaking tubs, freestanding tubs, and drop-in configurations depending on your space and preference. Old tile surrounds crack, grout fails, and moisture gets behind the wall. Part of a bath remodel is tearing out the existing surround down to the framing, assessing for any water damage or mold, and building back with proper cement board substrate and waterproofing before new tile or an acrylic wall system goes up. Skipping the tear-out and tiling over old tile is a shortcut that creates bigger problems later. We do not do it that way.
We tile three-wall alcove surrounds, deck surrounds, and wet walls with fully waterproofed installations. Tile options include porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, and mosaic.
